A Heartwarming Tale of Passion, Sacrifice, and Endurance
Award winning Letters to Lori shares the true story of a courageous woman’s struggle for change in a proud, close-knit community. Opal Myers, who assisted Catherine Marshall in her research for her best-selling novel Christy, describes her passion and sacrifice for the people of remote Cocke County, TN. As Opal recounts the sacrifice attached to her quest, she breaks our hearts as she surrenders all to God amidst severe trials. A war-torn husband. A battle to feed hungry mouths. Despite all odds, Opal keeps her dream—God’s dream—alive to bring hope to her resistant community and a dying mission.
In this beautifully scripted letter to her granddaughter Lori, mission worker Opal Myers leafs through the pages of her family’s history, and exposes the struggle of a mission striving for acceptance in a reluctant back-mountain community. Packed with her adventures as a one-room school teacher fighting poverty, as well as humorous anecdotes of the area’s memorable characters, the story reflects Opal’s humor and great love for her people, the mission, and its workers who changed her life.
When Ebenezer Mission closed, Opal single-handedly resurrected the mission to keep her promise to herself and God. As an inspiration to hold fast to your dreams, this book will challenge you to make a difference in the lives of those you love. Share in the laughter, tears, and legacy of her mark on history.

what a undertaking. To tell someone's story. Well written. Loved the true voice of this story. A grandmother who wanted to share with her granddaughter a treasured life. Makes you want to spend time with Opal no wonder Barbara made trips to visit her. I could see the mission house. Walking the cove. Left me with memories of Opal's life to ponder a while. Letters to Lori eBook Barbara League Reviews
I bought this book using the e-book format. It was downloaded directly to my smart phone and I didn't have to do anything else. Great book.
Very well written. A good history of the old days. I really enjoyed reading it.
I truly enjoyed reading Letters to Lori. The author did a wonderful job of taking me right into the history of this group of people in the old days in the South. I learned a lot. Recommended!
I enjoyed the book, Letters to Lori. It was well written and Catherine Marshall's books, all of them, especially Christy, have been among my favorites for years. I loved reading this book. It has left me with a real desire to go to the mountains where it all began and see for myself. We go there frequently and I have often wondered where the area of Ms. Marshall's Christy was really located. I hope someday I have the opportunity to go there. I would certainly recommend this book and would read any more this author has written.
Loved the book Christy long ago, and now this one fleshed out what it was really like and what a life of service and a Christian looks like. I highly recommend Christy fans to read this and truly understand what it was like and be inspired by a life of giving yourself away.
Thanks to this story, I got a peek into my own family history! I am one of the many grandchildren of Myrtle Myers. You have no idea how awesome it is for me to read this. I feel like I got to know the people I've only ever heard in name. Thank you so much for publishing this!
"Letters to Lori" was one of the best books I have ever read. Like most people, I came across this book while doing research after reading Christy. Opal is an inspiration to all and I will enjoy reading this book again and again!
